To discover the name of her actual target, the party found themselves making a deal with Adaka’s source of the contract – the Raven Queen – that when the time came to use or destroy “it”, the party would destroy “it.” Adaka could not be more specific on what “it” was, but she said that when the time came, those bound by the oath would know. Viktor seemed troubled… he had an idea as to what “it” may be already.
Their deal struck, Adaka revealed her true target – Paelias I, Emperor of Einmanudr, Heyannir, and the Minotaur Territories. His brothers, Lamlas and Varis, the viceroys of the smaller provinces, had contracted with the Queen of Ravens to eliminate their brother so they could assume power – unfortunately, the Eladrin are ageless, and cannot simply wait for Paelias to die for a chance at succession. Hearing this, Cephandrius sought to strike a deal for additional services – the assassination of the two brothers as well. To secure these services, Cephandrius offered Adaka the remnants of the Disassembler, an utterly unique piece of magical technology crafted by the Ancients… something that Adaka agreed would likely interest her. She would need a day to reach her vessel at the Glacier Rift in the north and would wait three days for the party to meet her with the device so they could finish their negotiations. Vonbin would stay with the party – as both collateral and to finish tying up loose ends for the party in Hul Golgrim.
To allow Adaka to move more freely across Vandalmál, the Vodoni also would need to be dealt with. Removing her mask, the party finally saw the face of the assassin – vaguely human, greenish skin, gaunt and nose-less, with tight-drawn black hair and pointed ears. She cut her palm, smearing greenish blood onto the mask, and handed to Cephandrius – hopefully, it would work to support the ruse that the party had managed to kill her, along with the word of Vonbin. Timetable set and plans in motion, Adaka passed through the back wall of the shop as though it was not there, leaving the party with Vonbin.
Finding the Visitors waiting with Mauhul outside, Cephandrius, Viktor, and Vondal (and despite Vonbin) manage to quickly convince the Vodoni breeder of their success, the mask sealing the deal. The excited wizard messages back to Remus and Romulus of Adaka’s demise, and relays that the conquerors would indeed like to see the proof. Assuming all is good, the Vodoni would keep their word.
Before the group could return to the Keldon camp, however, Branon and Cephandrius needed to persuade the guards as to their trustworthiness after the altercation in the quarantine zone. Using Branon’s writ, the two were able to explain the presence of a cult in the Hul; the district guard captain was grateful for their efforts and offered to vouch for Cephandrius with the Council when the bard mentioned needing to speak with them regarding Freythor’s call to arms.
While the bard and the cleric dealt with the Market District guards, Vondal and Vonbin made their way to speak with Artin at the Glanhig manor. Vonbin proved much more convincing with Vondal’s sister, and the pair managed to smooth over things between Vonbin and the Glanhigs. Before leaving, Vondal asked Artin if she could look into their brother’s whereabouts, leveraging her family's connections, to which she happily agreed.
