Untitled - language primer
- A small, handwritten journal with an intricate piece of tapestry whose patterning is unrecognizable as anything obvious folded and tucked into the back of the book - several pages have been removed from the back of the journal to accommodate the folded tapestry. A quick read of the commentary in the journal indicates it is a hobgoblin child's story-blanket, and the journal was a rough translation of the story on the blanket.
- A character can use the text to aid them in understanding Hobgoblin; while they have the book at hand, they can attempt an Intelligence check at disadvantage to understand the gist of someone speaking Hobgoblin. If they are working with a teacher to gain a language proficiency, the book allows them to shorten the time needed to learn Hobgoblin by one workweek.
Khak Mocroz: The Fall of Hul Keghrim - lore guide
- The book is a mix of eyewitness accounts written in several languages - Dwarven, Common, and Eladrin - describing Hul Keghrim, a Dwarven Hul forgotten to time. The phrase khak mocroz does not seem to have a literal translation . The book describes some of the daily goings-on of this forgotten Dwarven holding, leading up to some terrible disaster that come from deep within the mines and drove all the inhabitants to abandon the place. There are no illustrations within the book, but based on some of the descriptions about the geography surrounding the Hul, a researcher could likely locate the city with a few days of further research and some good historic maps.
Proper Methods of Dress, and Other Pressing Issues, Fourth Edition - Etiquette guide
- This quaint text of Eladrin origin goes into great detail on exactly how a gentleman or noblewoman of proper breeding should look, act, and think. Notably, more than fifty pages are dedicated to how many waistcoat buttons should be buttoned according to time of day. This edition begins with a blaring notice that, following the Petticoat Massacre, it is now considered an unforgivable faux pas to allow one's coattails to flap in the wind. A new sartorial device called a "Tail Stiffener" is essential for anyone wishing to make a good impression.
- Once read, provides +1 on Deception checks used to impersonate Eladrin royalty/nobility.
Kirkintilloch’s Principles of Steam - schematics/formula guide
- This bedraggled little book has been soaked and dried over a fire more than a few times. Inside the stained and crumbling pages are coded measurements for a number of devices powered by steam. The first are doodling agricultural innovations, but as the book progresses, the drawings start to take a more militaristic bent.
- This book contains a number of item creation formulae.
On the Anatomy of Goblinoid Bodies - Medical text
- An exhaustive exploration of the bodies of hobgoblins and bugbears, this is the life's work of Stanwen Nolik. It appears highly reputable, but no other surgeon has ever been willing to replicate Nolik's work.
- Once read, provides a +1 on Medicine checks used on hobgoblins and bugbears.
Encyclopedia of the Anvil, Vol 7 - schematics/formula guide
- The Encyclopedia of the Anvil is a legendary collection by an unknown master Dwarven wizard. With typical Dwarven ingenuity and discipline, he applied himself to cataloging magic with the same intensity of focus that a master smith would bring to a life-long masterwork. Even to the untrained eye, this collection of 15 books (50 lbs total) appear to be of exceptional quality. Despite their antiquity, they are in exquisite condition. Each page is richly illuminated, with orderly black-on-white Dwarven runic interspersed with intricate geometric designs and diagrams.
- This book contains a number of item creation formulae.
On the Hunting of Fauna and Fowl in the Western Mountains: Ed. II - survival guide
- A guide to the natural inhabitants of the Western Mountains
- A plain text, sturdily made, with an embossed leather cover. It details the hunting, preparing and cooking of most animals to be found in the aforementioned mountains. The first edition was rather controversial, I fear, because the author included recipes that contained hobgoblin meat and various forms of fey.
- Once read, provides a +1 to Survival checks for foraging while in the Western Mountains.
Treatise on demonology, ghosts and apparitions, and other superstitions - lore guide
- Written in a flowing hand and in an odd mixture of Imperial Common and Eladrin, this sturdy, otherwise nondescript volume details through academic discussion and recordings of eye-witness accounts of hauntings, possessions, and other interactions with otherworldly phenomenon.
- Once read, provides a +1 on Arcana checks related to identifying certain types of undead and fiends.
Utopia Gardens - lore guide
- The paperback book is smudged and dirty, with several torn pages. A large chunk of chapters in the middle has come unglued from the spine. The book discusses ideal farm and garden techniques for sustainable farming, with references to and explanations of a number of druidic spells. Careful discussion of the layout of the garden is given, with the author asserting that the relative 'mood' of the garden is important for cultivating positive energies. The most worn pages outline different spirits, dryads, and guardians that will come to nest or visit a properly maintained 'Utopia Garden'
- Once read, provides a +1 to Arcana checks involving certain fey that relate to gardens and forest. Also contains information allowing a druid to learn the druidcraft cantrip if they do not already know it. A druid may also treat plant growth as a circle spell if it is not already a circle spell for them.
Hunting the Deer of Eden - survival guide
- This is a simple leather bound book with rough-cut pages. The first several chapters cover hunting and trapping. Different kinds of traps for different environments and supply levels are given. Information on crafting arrows and how to pick the best hunting bows follow, finished with how to skin and butcher your kill effectively. The second half of the book covers specific hunting guides for magical or more elusive prey than just to eat. The author's greatest hunt spans the final chapter, the deer-spirits ridden by elder Dryads or Nymphs. These spirits will only inhabit forests particularly tended to by elves or dryads and are considered a highly protected species. This book is banned in most elven or fae societies.
- Once read, provides a +1 to Survival checks to track fey in the wild.
Spores, Molds, and Fungi: A Cookbook for Spelunkers - survival guide
